Have you looked on Ebay recently and seen how many SLRs are for sale on there without their standard lens, or more to the point without any lens?
There are hundreds of SLR's out there with no lens whatsoever. Just picture after picture of camera bodies. Not with caps to protect the mirror and the camera from dust, just open empty bodies without their lens.
So why is this and what has happened to these once beautiful lenses?
Its the digital grave robbers ! Those dreaded Bokeh Boys! They buy a cheap SLR then rob it of its original lens to put on their digital camera to try out the lens.
Then the camera gets put on ebay and sold without its period lens! Or even worse, just junked. It's a shame, in my world the camera and the lens belong together, not torn apart and the lens adapted to fit the latest digital SLR.

Don't get me wrong, I have seen the lovely images they produce with these adaptations onto digital, they are fantastic, with their soap bubble bokeh, but have you tried buying an old Meyer lens for your vintage Praktica or Exakta today? Meyer lenses used to be a cheaper alternative to Zeiss, maybe a little less sharp, more prone to flare and distortion, but now these cheaper lenses are big money with the Bokeh Boys, they have never heard of lens hoods, they love the dreaded flare and softer image when wide open that these vintage lenses give and will pay big bucks for the privilege, of getting it or if they are sharp they look for an old complete Praktica on ebay and rob it of it's lens!

You would think that there must be a better way and low and behold there is! Meyer Optik have been brought back from the dead and are producing new hand made lenses of their old designs ! You can now buy a brand new 100mm Trioplan, the Bokeh Boys holy grail, or a Lydith wide angle or even a 58mm Primoplan. They look fantastic, the results are superb. You no longer need to worry about haze, dust, fungus, stiff focus, and dodgy diaphragms or upsetting the old git who writes this blog, no you can purchase a new lens from the 1930's !
